The PMH1 Improvement Project is an integral component of the Province's comprehensive plan to address the transportation needs of our growing population, sustain our economy and ensure a healthy environment and high quality of life for all British Columbians. In keeping with the Provincial Transit Plan, the Gateway Program and a commitment to alternative transportation, the project includes congestion-reduction measures such as high occupancy vehicle lanes, transit and commercial vehicle priority measures and improvements to the cycling network.
The project supports increased transportation choices through transit improvements such as the new Highway 1 ExpressBus service over the Port Mann Bridge, which will connect the new Langley Park & Ride and Transit Exchange to Lougheed SkyTrain Station, to support transit use and carpooling. The new bridge also provides for future rapid transit.
The project also includes dedicated Transit/HOV lanes and interchange access, and improvements to expand multi-use paths for cycling and pedestrian access and connections over Highway 1.
