In order to pay for the new Port Mann Bridge and associated highway widening from Vancouver to Langley, an electronic toll will be in place for vehicles crossing the new bridge. The PMH1 Project will use Open Road Tolling, which is a system that allows customers to drive through without slowing down for toll booths.
This approach to tolling is a safer and more efficient method of tolling than traditional toll booths. Customers will have multiple payment options and will use an electronic tolling device so they do not need to worry about exact change or delays. Payment will be simple and convenient for all bridge users, providing multiple options based on usage and payment preferences.
The tolling framework includes discounts for car pooling and for commercial vehicles that use the bridge overnight. Together with the new RapidBus service over the bridge, these discounts are designed to reduce congestion and extend the life of the bridge and highway improvements.
