As part of the Port Mann Highway 1 project, important environmental and habitat work is taking place on‐and off‐corridor to deliver the project to the highest environmental standards.
Mundy Creek
The PMH1 Project, in collaboration with the City of Coquitlam, has undertaken a habitat improvement project at Mundy Creek. The existing channel provides salmon spawning habitat. Extensive construction work has taken place to create a new off‐shoot channel, complete with large woody debris and stream‐side plantings.
The new channel provides winter habitat for young Coho Salmon, which prefer smaller streams with less flow. The improved fish habitat also includes natural cover for shade as well as refuge from predators. In addition, culverts have been replaced under Lougheed Highway to enhance fish passage between the upper and lower portions of this creek.
Wilson Farm
Wilson Farm is an important habitat within Colony Farm Regional Park. The planned habitat and water management improvements will benefit fish, birds and other wildlife. The habitat enhancements will also restore tidal flow, provide critical rearing habitat for young Chinook and Coho salmon, and benefit overall ecological diversity in the Wilson Farm area, while still protecting the old-field habitat .

Other Projects
Other work occurring in the Coquitlam/Cape Horn region includes the Brunette River south and east of the Brunette Avenue Interchange, Como Creek, Popeye Creek Tributary, Dawes Hill and three named streams near the Port Mann Bridge.
