Permanent Closures

The majority of the PMH1 Project will be completed with improvements to existing infrastructure and the creation of new infrastructure.

Three permanent closures are required as part of the PMH1 Project.

Grandview Highway in Burnaby

On December 11, 2009, a permanent closure came into effect for westbound motorists wishing to access Grandview Highway (Clydesdale Avenue) using the Willingdon Avenue off-ramp.  As a result of the closure, motorists wishing to access the Still Creek business area will need to use an alternate route. Please see the map below for the alternate route.

Changes at the 152 Street Interchange in Surrey

The new Port Mann Bridge will improve traffic flow and reduce travel times on Highway 1 by separating highway through-traffic from traffic exiting the highway at either end of the bridge. This significant improvement requires construction of new, dedicated “local-connection” lanes to Coquitlam adjacent to Highway 1 “through-traffic” lanes near 152 Street in Surrey. These new lanes will also eliminate use of local streets in Fraser Heights to avoid highway congestion.

In order to construct the new "local-connection" lanes, and also to reduce the amount of non-local traffic on local streets, the following permanent closures have occurred:

  1. The eastbound Highway 1 off-ramp loop to 108 Avenue.
  2. The left turn from 110 Avenue onto 152 Street southbound, and the right turn from 152 Street northbound onto 110 Avenue.
  3. The 110 Avenue on-ramp to Highway 1 westbound.

Permanent Closure of On-Ramp at 164 Street

On November 23, 2011, the on-ramp at 164 Street connecting 104 Avenue on the north side of the highway with 104 Avenue on the south side of the highway was permanently closed.

As part of the final configuration for the improved 160 Street Interchange, drivers wishing to travel from Fraser Heights to Guildford area will travel west on 104 Avenue and turn left at 160 Street (shown in green on the map below). Drivers exiting Highway 1 westbound will still be able to access 104 Avenue on the north and south side of the highway (shown in blue on the map below). The configuration of the 160 Street Interchange shown on the map will be in effect until Spring 2012.

Once complete in Fall 2012, the 160 Street Interchange will improve traffic safety and operational efficiency, provide more direct connections to Highway 1 and better community connections across the highway.

Permanent Closure of 104A Avenue Access from 104 Avenue

On February 1, access to 104A Avenue from 104 Avenue will be permanently closed. This closure is required for construction of the new intersection at 104 Avenue/176 Street and the future connection to the South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR). Drivers wishing to access 104A Avenue will do so from 173 Street.
