During construction, the contractor is required to maintain existing pedestrian and cycling facilities. If construction activity requires the rerouting of cyclists or pedestrians, those changes must be well signed.

For information on detours and changes, as well as current cycling and pedestrian closures, please refer to the project areas listed below.

Vancouver/Burnaby

Grandview & Boundary Road Area

• The east side sidewalk on Boundary Road is temporarily closed
• Pedestrians and cyclists are currently detoured to the west side of Boundary Road
• Crews are doing a partial demolition and rebuild on the east side of Boundary Road
• In 2012, a new multi-use path will open on the east side 
• When this happens, pedestrians and cyclists will be detoured to the east side of Boundary Road and demolition of the west side of the Highway 1 overpass will begin.

Sprott Street 

• In September 2009, there was a partial demolition of the east side of the Sprott Street structure and pedestrians and cyclists were detoured to the west side
  
• In April 2011, crews will begin construction on the west side of the structure and traffic will be shifted to the east side. Pedestrians and cyclists will also be detoured to the east side
• The new Sprott Street overpass will be complete in July 2012 

Kensington Avenue

• There is a new overpass being constructed on the east side of the existing overpass. The existing multi-use path on the west side of the structure has been maintained during construction.
• The new Kensington Avenue structure is scheduled for November 2012. 

Willingdon Avenue

• Sidewalk on the east side was closed as of August 2010 
• Pedestrians and cyclists have been detoured to the west side of the Willingdon Avenue structure 
• Partial demolition of the existing structure on east side to begin January 2011 

Coquitlam / Cape Horn

• The bicycle path that goes under the Port Mann Bridge, connecting Maquabeak Park to Colony Farm Regional Park, has been temporarily closed. When construction in the area is complete, the bicycle and pedestrian path will re-open under the Bridge. 

• As of March 30, 2012 cyclists will ride underneath a new structure at Lougheed Highway and Highway 1 and will have a cyclist controlled light at the Coleman on-ramp. For more information, please see the Cycling Update.
