Construction Schedule

FALL/WINTER 2010

Vancouver/Burnaby

  • Install new deck panels and build retaining walls at approaches to Grandview Highway HOV ramps
  • Building of foundations, columns and retaining walls at the Boundary Road and BNSF railway underpasses to support new Highway 1 lanes continues
  • Relocate utilities between Grandview Highway and Willingdon Avenue
  • Install girders for Kensington Avenue and Sprott Street overpasses
  • Construction of support columns for new Gaglardi Way overpass begins

Coquitlam/Cape Horn

  • Build Stage 2 of new highway lanes over CP Rail
  • Construction of connections between the Port Mann Bridge and Lougheed Highway eastbound continues

New Port Mann Bridge

  • Pier and tower construction continues
  • South approach deck construction complete and gantry moves to north approach
  • Complete construction of south tower (to a height of 160 metres)
  • Begin hanging bridge deck segments and cables from south tower 

Surrey

  • Construction Detour – shift Highway 1 westbound traffic onto new, local-connection lanes for one year, to continue Highway 1 and build new 152 Street overpass
  • Construct and pave the new Highway 1 lanes between 168 and 192 Street
  • Construction of the 160 Street and 104 Avenue overpasses continues
  • Construct the new 156 Street retaining walls and begin constructing 156 Street HOV/transit ramps
  • Ongoing utility relocations

2011

Vancouver/Burnaby

  • Highway 1 widening and lane reconstruction between First Avenue and Boundary Road continues
  • Construction of Sprott Street and Kensington Avenue overpasses continues
  • Construction of Willingdon Avenue and Gaglardi Way overpasses continues
  • Highway widening over Brunette River and North Road begins
  • Construct new fish and wildlife culverts across Highway 1 between Kensington Avenue and Gaglardi Way  

Coquitlam/Cape Horn

  • Continue construction of new Cape Horn Interchange ramps and overpasses (total of fifteen)
  • Close the King Edward Street underpass for three months to demolish the existing structure, lower Highway 1 and construct the final stages of the new overpass
  • Complete CP Rail Stage 2 and temporarily shift eastbound highway traffic to remove remaining portions of the old crossing and construct the final phase of new highway lanes
  • Relocate CP Rail track onto a new alignment just south of its current location
  • Construction of the new Brunette Avenue Interchange begins

New Port Mann Bridge

  • Complete construction of north tower
  • North approach bridge deck Installation continues
  • Begin hanging bridge deck segments and cables from north tower

Surrey

  • Construction of all new ramps and overpasses continues
  • Continue construction of local connection lanes from the new Port Mann Bridge to west of 156 Street 
  • Construction of a new Barnston Drive Overpass across 176 Street begins

2012

Vancouver/Burnaby

  • Complete Highway 1 widening and lane reconstruction between First Avenue and Boundary Road
  • Construct new transit-only ramps to access Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain Station at Government Street
  • Continue work on Willingdon Avenue interchange and overpass replacement and environmental improvements at Still Creek
  • Complete the new Kensington Ave interchange and remove the existing overpass
  • Complete final paving of new lanes

Coquitlam/Cape Horn

  • Highway 1 widening and connections to the new Port Mann Bridge and Lougheed Highway completed
  • Construct noise walls within the Cape Horn area
  • New King Edward Street overpass and Brunette Avenue Interchange improvements completed

New Port Mann Bridge

  • Bridge deck and cables complete, followed by surfacing and paving
  • MILESTONE: Open new bridge to traffic (4 lanes in each direction) – travel time savings and tolling begin.

Surrey

  • Complete reconstruction of the 152 Street interchange and 156 Street median HOV ramps and Barnston Drive Overpass
  • Complete improvements to the 160th Street and 176th Street interchanges
  • Remove old overpasses at 152 Street, 160 Street and 176 Street
  • Complete South Fraser Perimeter Road paving

2013

Vancouver/Burnaby

  • Construct new transit-only ramps to access Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain Station at Government Street

Coquitlam/Cape Horn

  • All construction on Lougheed Highway, Mary Hill Bypass and all remaining structures in the Cape Horn Interchange completed
  • Continue removal of existing bridge (completion in 2014)

New Port Mann Bridge

  • Remove portions of existing south and north approach and complete connections for all 10 lanes of new bridge
  • MILESTONE: Open two remaining bridge lanes with new traffic configuration – 3 through lanes, including 1 HOV, and 2 local connection lanes in each direction.
